Naturally lighten dyed hair-Hair Dye Disaster

by - 10:21 AM

I had posted that I was dying my hair to get it a more natural shade and not have to bleach my roots the blonde was so hard to maintain. I am trying to be more natural and dying my hair is the least natural thing I do. So here is what happened to me, and how I corrected it naturally.

So I posted pictures that my hair was like this
with a little darker root growth

So I thought I will just dye it darker and be done with it. Now I have been a compulsive hair dye queen since I was a preteen. I have gone from blonde to brown many times with and without an issue. I usually never take on a hair dye journey until I have a free day so just in case I can correct it. This time I said your a pro, you don't have anywhere to be until noon tomorrow go ahead.

Well I dyed it a bright red like before, and that color took just fine. The next step was a dark blonde which was going to leave me with a brownish blonde color. I have done this a few times in the past few years and it has always worked. This time I put the dye on left it for 30 minutes and washed it out. I blow dried my hair and my hair look like this.

(beautiful on her but not what I wanted)

How it got to this color I will never know, but it was a dark cherry red at the roots almost black and then an ombre effect into lighter red and then brown. My hair was not this color with the red on it so how the red got darker I will never know. Needless to say this was the disaster because it was nothing like I wanted. I had a brief moment of panic thinking I must bleach it NOW! Instead I put on my big girl pants and googled naturally get rid of too dark hair dye. I had tried most of the things before and I know those will not help in a day they will be gradually fading for the next week. I did see this little trick and thought WHY NOT.

This is one hair trick I had never tried but a lot of girls said it worked for them. I laughed at the idea but thought I have a cabinet full of vitamin c so let's give it a try. I took out 10 tablets (more if you are doing your whole head) and crushed them into a fine powder. I then added them to a bowl, and  put joy dish washing liquid in the bowl and mixed. You can use whatever shampoo you want, but dish washing liquid will help strip the color so I just used it. I only wanted my roots lighter, because the red of my hair although not the color I wanted was actually a pretty shade. I put it on my roots for an hour with a plastic bag on my head and then rinsed. When I say that it lightened my hair I mean took away the dark cherry red roots to a nice dark blonde. So I then put more of the mixture on the rest of my hair and now it is ultimately back to the color I had wanted.

How the Vitamin C works is beyond me but it didn't dry out my hair. I have a nice mixture of highlights and it isn't so harsh. I hide from the sun and do not fake tan as much as I should so anything darker than this makes me feel like I belong in Twilight or a dark corner :)

So don't worry the next time your hair dye doesn't turn out as light as you want, try this a few times and let me know how it works!
